DESIGN TREND SPOTLIGHT 2017
/This year, design trends are getting back to basics with an excited marked return to the organic and functional beauty of raw and natural materials. Colours will be earthy, rich and bold whilst natural stone will be complex, ‘stoney’ and have depth to their character. Whilst there will be a minimalist approach to the interaction of the design aesthetic, the intent will focus more on the creation of more timeless, comfortable and subtle zones that blur distinct interior/exterior spatial lines: with an emphasis on bringing the outside inside.
STONE TREND SPOTLIGHT 2017:
BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN
In particular, stone trends for 2017 are entirely about uncovering and connecting to the simplicity and spirit of the material when used within home, work and play zones. With technology playing a such a dominating role in the majority of our working day, it will be this escape from the chokehold of digital distraction, experienced through the use of sensual textures, harmonious pattern and soft form, that will allow ourselves to breathe, relax and calm the soul. An intense, rich smorgasbord of greens and blues, coupled with foggy greys, blacks and earthen colour schemes are anticipated to be at the forefront of both interior and exterior colour palates for 2017, with raw, polished and honed finishes interweaving.
STONE STYLE
SIMPLISTIC & EARTHY TONES FOR HOME, WORK & PLAY SPACES
For flooring, larger stone size panels are trending, with patterns tending to be more fluid in shape and layout. Whether it be internal or external flooring, travertines and limestones are top on the hot list. Macrostone recommends:
BIANCA VEIN CUT TRAVERTINE
MACRO GREY LIMESTONE
WALNUT UNFILLED TRAVERTINE
ARGENTO SILVER VEIN CUT TRAVERTINE
MADAGASCAR LIMESTONE
STEPPING STONE BLUESTONE
ITALIAN SILVER TRAVERTINE
SILVER SHADOW MARBLE
Bathrooms will experience oversized wall stone tile variations that inevitably match the floor tiles, with a honed or tumbled finish. Macrostone suggest considering limestone, granite, marble, quartzite and bluestone in the following colours:
ASH GREY LIMESTONE
AVESTA SMOKE MARBLE
REGAL SAND LIMESTONE
NERO TEMPESTA MARBLE
FANTASY GRANITE
BYRON BLACK LIMESTONE
SILVER BLUE QUARTZITE
BEIJING SNOW QUARTZITE
However, for a truly enriching bathroom or kitchen stone experience, bluestone is top of the list. Bluestone is a deep, dark volcanic rock that lends itself to both industrial and urban applications equally, has muted colour tones and is soft underfoot. A honed finish is recommended for non-slip surfaces and a polished surface is advised to really show off the depth of the colour fragments. Check out:
SOUTHERN BLACK FLAMED BLUESTONE
SOUTHERN BLACK POLISHED BLUESTONE
SAWN BLUESTONE
CATPAW BLUESTONE
Marble still seems to be on trend for bathroom and kitchen surfaces, however a there is a shift from the Carrara style to a more sophisticated look that is complex its character. Trending for 2017 in marble:
